JAMES Vince headed a last-gasp winner as Laverstock and Ford returned to winning ways in their quest for lifting the Sydenhams Wessex Division One title.

After being knocked off top spot last week, Lavvy ensured they kept on the coat-tails of new leaders Hamble Club after beating East Cowes Victoria 1-0.

The result left co-managers Robbie Lakeman and Liam McConnell relieved.

"Similarly to last week, we are playing a totally different side who have tried to defend for their lives.

"Had we dropped points it would have been a travesty. While we wanted a stellar performance after the past couple of results we've had, the spirit and effort the boys put in proved just how badly they want it this season so we'll use that to hopefully kick on now."

Laverstock, being cheered on by a sizeable crowd at The Dell, started brightly with Russell Jones skying an effort over the bar from inside six yards following good work by Archie Lovegrove.

Jones was denied this time by the East Cowes custodian moments later blocking a one-on-one attempt.

The second half saw even more pressure put on the visitors' defence as Joe Sanger, Jones and Lovegrove all created chances.

With time running out, Laverstock were throwing everything at their opposition and finally reaped their rewards in he 89th minute.

A corner found its way to the back post and Vince was on hand to bravely head home for the three points.
