DOWNTON's inconsistent season continued in Sydenhams Wessex Division One with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Totton and Eling.
The hosts, who were missing experienced duo Ben Smith and Paul Gulliver, did not look themselves and rarely threatened the Totton goal, and were punished.
A free kick was not dealt with and Sam Ford pounced.
Two minutes later, a superb long-range effort from Joshua Graham beat Charlie Aldridge to double Totton's lead.
"It just didn't happen for us, we didn't have the spark we had last week," said boss Rae Hughes.
"We have to be more consistent and be able to have the same mentality against every team in this league.
"We will work hard in training this week and be as prepared as we can be for Christchurch on Saturday."
In Sydenhams Wessex Premier, Amesbury Town let a three-goal cushion slip from their grasp as they settled for a point with Whitchurch United.
Goals from David Parry, Josh Stockwell and Kieran Stephens gave boss Jim Macey, against his former club, plenty to smile about.
A Shawn Foster header and Taurean Manders' volley reduced the deficit to one goal.
And deep into stoppage time Scott Hass slid home for a share of the spoils 3-3.
Macey rued the point: "I was disappointed with our second half display after being 3-1 up. Players need to learn how to shut games down and two very sloppy goals were given away."
