JIM Macey has quit as manager of Amesbury Town with immediate effect.

The outgoing boss announced his resignation from Bonnymead Park late on Tuesday night.

It’s the second time this season that Macey has quit the number one job. He left in November before being reinstated 48 hours later.

But Macey insists this time it’s for good, with his side winning just one of their last 10 matches.

“It is with massive regret that I am resigning from my position as manager of Amesbury Town first team,” Macey declared to JournalSport.

“My reasons are the club, unfortunately, is unable to raise funds for travel expenses for all. This also has an impact on training, as there are no funds for any indoor or outdoor rental facilities which is having a knock-on effect on the team’s performance, causing indifferent form as we are unable to work on any phases of play or set pieces.

“I’m not sure that the committee understands all that is needed at this level of football to compete and stay within the league.

“I believe the club will probably be safe this season with points achieved and more to be gained, but for the last four months I feel I have been fighting a losing battle with expenses being cut. I’m unable to attract the players needed to improve and push the team forward.”

He departs Amesbury in 13th place with 14 games to play in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

It’s the club’s first season in the Premier following promotion from Division One under Gareth Horner, who Macey assisted last season before taking the reins this term.

Chairman Steve Pearce says he’s currently working to find an interim replacement to stand in for Saturday’s home clash with Alresford Town (3pm).

“I’m shocked, as this decision has come out of the blue,” he said.

“I’ve tried to ring him and sent him a message but this time it’s for good.

“There has been no changes in funds. Maybe the pressure was getting to him.

“We have a couple of options and are now looking for a new manager. I’m in a predicament but we should be okay for Saturday."

The club are also looking for a new chairman, as previously announced by JournalSport.

Pearce is stepping down due to work and family commitments in April.
