AMESBURY Town have appointed a young new boss.

Adam Pearson, 26, will take charge of the Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit until the end of the season as player/manager.

The appointment comes 10 days after Jim Macey's acrimonious departure from Bonnymead Park.

Centre-half Pearce, who will be assisted by Dan Stead, said: "As a current Amesbury Town player, it has been a positive experience helping the club reach its highest ever non-league position.

"Having wanted to develop a managerial career at the culmination of my playing days, the opportunity to do so at an advanced stage, and for a club like Amesbury Town, is a fantastic opportunity. I therefore want to thank the club for the chance and I will commit everything I can to ensure a positive outcome."

Chairman Steve Pearce, who had to close the deadline on Sunday due to a high number of applications, says he's glad to have found a suitable replacement.

"Upon starting the recruitment process we were pleased to see interest from a range of very qualified candidates, and we thank them again for their application," said Pearce.

"In making the choice to appoint Adam from this selection we believe, considering his experience, aptitude and existing links with the club and local football community, that we have chosen the right candidate to take the club forward through the final third of this season.

"The entire club will work with Adam to help ensure that this period is a success as well as helping build a strong platform for the 17/18 season and from there onwards."

Amesbury, who have won once in their last 11 games, look to pick up some points at second-placed Blackfield and Langley tomorrow (3pm).

The Blues are 10 points clear of the relegation zone with 13 games left.
