BEMERTON Health Harlequins celebrated winning the Wessex League Premier Division Team of the Month with two excellent wins.

Last Saturday they won a thriller 3-2 against visiting Newport in the Wessex League Premier Division.

Then on Tuesday night, Jake Rawkins was their hat-trick hero as they booked their place in the final four of the Wiltshire Senior Cup with a 3-0 win at Bremhill.

Against Newport, the home side got off to the best possible start when after just a minute, Rawkins opened the scoring at the back post following a fine cross from Kelvin Robinson.

Newport came in to the game and played some neat passing football but without actually getting through the home defence.

Bemerton should of made it two on 20 minutes when Robinson was put through one on one but was unable to convert.

Bemerton did score their second shortly after, when Robbie Matthews powered down the right and thundered a shot in to the bottom right corner of the goal.

Bemerton were looking comfortable now, but Newport would score their 1st of the afternoon on 44 minutes when their forward smashed home from 25 yards leaving Crossley with no chance to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Newport started the second half on the front foot and scored a deserved equaliser a few minutes in when a scramble in the box was dispatched easily.

Bemerton made a few changes and the substitutes seemed to make a difference.

The lively Jordan Matthews carved out a few chances, but it would be the other substitute James Lightfoot who would score the all important three with just five minutes left on the clock.

He closed down the goalkeeper and put the ball in to the empty net from a tight angle.

Manager Rae Hughes said: "A big win for us today, wasn’t pretty at times but the win is the most important thing. Newport are a good side and will move up the table. We were missing Jack Slade, Seb Dawes and captain Jake Burgess today so all in all a good win."

This Saturday, Bemerton are at home to Portland United.
