LAVERSTOCK and Ford's unbeaten run stretched to seven games following an action packed 2-2 draw away to a tricky Alton Town on the Wessex League Division One's only 3G surface.

With Alton in good home form the visitors knew the game would be a stern test and despite a fairly evenly fought first half it was the home side who took the lead courtesy of a swift counter attack after 28 minutes.

Following the interval, the visitors came out with more aggression and instantly set about hunting down the equaliser but on 53 minutes, a straight red was shown to Tyler Brockway for an altercation in the Alton box left Laverstock with a mountain to climb.

Down to 10 men and a goal down, the visitors quickly set about going on the attack.

Within five minutes Archie Lovegrove headed in Tom Munday's corner to level things up.

The 10 men were dominating their opponents and when Russ Jones was hacked down in the box Adam Bourner stepped up to score his fourth penalty in five weeks giving the 10 men the lead.

However, a final twist to a frantic game was to come, within two minutes, Alton equalised from a rare defensive lapse at a corner.

Both sides still had time to score the winner Max Allen's superlative volley was finely palmed away by the Alton goalkeeper and Bourner blocked a goal bound effort at the death.

Afterwards Liam McConnell and Rob Lakeman said: "We have mixed feelings today, we didn't demonstrate our qualities on a tricky surface in that first half today which was disappointing, but to respond to a double blow of being a goal down and a man down to galvanize as a group.

"We turned it around to deservedly take the lead shows the spirit in the camp right now. Then to concede what, for us is a sloppy goal by our recent standards leaves us feeling disappointed.

"We are immensely proud of the way we turned things round and the boys and that character will be needed over the coming weeks. We have 8 games to go, we will keep plugging away and see where it gets us, the unbeaten run continues."

Laverstock fourth in the Wessex League Division One, are away to promotion rivals Romsey Town on Saturday.
