AMESBURY Town will have a new manager for next season, following the appointment of Dave Coker.

He will take over from current manager Gareth Horner, who is stepping down for personal reasons on conclusion of this campaign.

Coker is no stranger to Amesbury as he the club's all-time leading scorer and a manager who has a wealth of experience in the Wessex League.

Coker took Shaftesbury Town from the Dorset County League to the Wessex Premier. He therefore has the background, skills and contacts to take forward Amesbury Town’s development.

The new boss said: "I am delighted to return to Amesbury Town, this time as first team manager. The club has always been a large part of my life and I am looking forward to ensuring success on the field.

"There is a sizeable amount of potential here and I know that everyone involved, including myself, will work together to ensure a positive 18/19 season”

Club Chairman Gino Nardiello paid tribute to current manager and said: "Gareth should be proud of what he has achieved at Amesbury Town over the last few years. He ensured success in respect of promotion and cup competitions and has made sure that the club has been very competitive against larger and better resourced teams. Whilst he is stepping down as manager, we are delighted that he has committed to remain part of Amesbury’s management committee.”

Amesbury's pre season training will commence on Tuesday June 12 (7pm) and will continue from there on every following Thursday and Tuesday, through to the end of July.

On the pitch Amesbury lost their goalkeeper Paddy Crease after half an hour of their 6-2 loss at Hamble Club.

Nathan Lynch scored five times for the home side, while Jake Allen and Gareth Horner were on target for the visitors.

Amesbury are in action again on Thursday, when they entertain Hamworthy United and then on Saturday, AFC Portchester are the visitors.

Two days later, they are away Team Solent.
