Salisbury & District League roundup - April 6-9

BOSCOMBE Down Rec Club claimed their first ever piece of silverware by beating Alderbury reserves 2-1 in the Charity B Cup Final at Downton on Good Friday.

Robbie Homebury went close with a shot from outside the box and Boscombe's passing football started to flow. They took the lead midway through the first half, when Danny Goodall did well to keep the ball in play. Dave Sage squared it to Chris Young who skipped past a defender and rifled a right-foot shot past the goalkeeper.

Alderbury pushed hard in the second half but with 20 minutes to go Boscombe had breathing space when Tom Copeland headed in Sage's corner. They had to survive a nervy last five minutes after Alderbury's goalkeeper came up for a free kick and scored.

South Newton & Wishford lifted the Morrison Cup with a 2-1 extra time victory over Alderbury at Bemerton on Easter Monday.

Newton were awarded a penalty in the first half, after Dan Brain was pushed over, but his penalty was saved by the impressive Charlie Street.

Alderbury took the lead shortly after the restart when a defensive slip allowed Mark Scott to slot home. Newton skipper Paul Merritt levelled with a header from Ashley Blake's cross.

The game went into extra time and was eventually won with eight minutes to go when Richard Tutton scored a fine solo goal, giving manager Luke Stephens his first success in charge.

In the Premier Division on Saturday, Durrington Dynamos held their spot at the top with a 2-1 win over Porton Sports.
