Four more for on-song Blues

AMESBURY Town registered their second straight four-goal win on Friday night against AFC Port-chester.

They took the lead after ten minutes when Danny Western flicked the ball across goal for his brother Tom to leap and direct a header inside the near post.

Lance Cooper went close with a lob that came back off the upright, but the Blues did make it two on 37 minutes.

The goal came when Nic Turpin took advantage of a poor John Woodcock backpass and slotted into the empty net.

Turpin claimed his 44th of the season six minutes after the break, from a move started by Craig Wheeler.

Danny Western took the ball across goal and laid it off for Turpin to rifle into the far corner.

The scoring was completed in the 57th minute by Tom Western's second, a sweet dipping volley from outside the box.

Amesbury can finish no higher than their current position of 11th, but they have some important targets to chase.

They are just six goals short of the 100-goal mark, and Turpin is eight behind Terry Bates' club goalscoring record of 52 for 1960/61.

Their next game is at home to AFC Aldermaston on Saturday - the Blues won the reverse fixture 5-0 last month, so will be hopeful of racking up some more goals.
