WILTSHIRE continued with their good early season form when they beat Devon for the first time in 21 years with a three run victory.

Their positive result came in the first group match of the Unicorns Knockout Cup at Instow on Sunday.

With rain looking likely, Devon won the toss and asked Wiltshire to bat.

The visiting county team recalled 234 for nine wickets in their 50 overs.

South Wilts’ Tom Morton made 62, Joe Breet 34, Michael Coles 47 and Adam Miles 24. For Devon Trevor Anning took 2 for 60, James Burke 2 for 65 and Scott Barlow 2 for 38.

In reply, Devon ended their innings on 231 for six wickets. Liam Lewis anchored the innings with 86, Josh Bess scored 33 and Rhys Davies 23 not out. Jake Roberts took two for 51.

Wiltshire were well on top after 35 overs with Devon on 117 for four wickets.

The middle overs were dominated by Michael Coles with one for 29 and Tom Foley one for 30, but Wiltshire nearly paid the price for only having four specialist bowlers with the two part-time bowlers going for 76 off their 10 overs.

However, Jake Roberts took two wickets in the 46th over to ensure a win.

Their next match in the Cup is against Cornwall at Corsham on Sunday, May 11 (11am).
