A SHOW jumper from Salisbury is celebrating success in the second round of the EquestrianClearance.com championship.

Danny Dunne, 26, took victory on board his mother Gerry’s seven-year-old chestnut gelding Criss Cross at the newcomers’ second round at Bicton Arena on June 15.

Up for grabs at the second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship final at the Horse of the Year Show.

Of the 65 starters, 12 combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off.

In the jump off itself, just two combinations went on to secure a third clear and they took the tickets.

Dunne and Criss Cross were drawn fourth to go in the jump off where a solid performance saw them secure a treble clear in a time of 43.56 seconds.

Dunne said: “I was really pleased with Criss Cross’ performance, he settled as the class went on and his jumping just got better and better. Both his dam and sire have won classes at the Horse of the Year Show before, so I am interested to see what the future holds for him.”

The Horse of the Year Show 2014 will take place from October 8 to 12 at the Birmingham NEC.
