SALISBURY’S first poker league final was held on Saturday.

A total of 33 qualifiers from five different venues across the city competed to win the top prize of £500 and a trophy at the Royal Oak, Devizes Road, on Saturday afternoon.

Many of the players have been playing poker in the city for seven years, but the first official league started this year. Members play every week at the Huntsman, the Dusthole, the Snooker Club, Bachus and the Royal Oak and the start of the official league saw numbers rise from 75 to 100.

Everyone puts money in a kitty for the 12-week season and those that qualify compete for that money in the final.

The final lasted seven hours and saw Rez Azizi walk away with the top prize. Andy Willock came second and Paul Humphries was third. There were cash prizes up to fifth place.

There are four seasons a year and the next season started on Sunday.
