TWO huge weights dominated the second round of the annual Teams of Four competition, fished at Witherington Farm Fishery at the weekend.

John Dewberry hauled out an incredible 179lb 2oz from the fishery's Inner Snake lake, while a few yards away on the Outer Snake, John Gray banked an amazing 113lb 8oz, putting both anglers well ahead of the rest of the competitors.

Winning team on the day were RTB with 34 points and second were Reid's Tackle with 32 points - the two teams holding the same positions in the league after two matches.

Weights were a lot lower in Salisbury Angling Club's match on their two Petersfinger lakes but the support was good with 18 anglers taking part.

Top angler on the top lake was Chris Opey with 9lb followed by Frank Gumbleton with 6lb. On the lower lake, Paul Barnard weighed-in 24lb 3oz and Ian Heydon, 14lb 15oz.

Fishing has been patchy over the last week or so with rivers fairly low and clear and little weed cover about.

There are reports of a 3lb 9oz roach from the Avon at Winkton, on Christchurch AC's day ticket water.

Stretches of the Avon have been producing bags of dace and chub.

Salisbury Angling Club's Nightingale Lake at Wellow, is producing good bags of carp and tench up to 50lb a sitting and during Rod and Line's absence, two notable carp were landed from the club's Steeple Langford lake - Chris Spittal banking a 33lb 8oz mirror, a new personal best, and Andy Murphy netting another mirror of 34lb.

The club's ties with Tedworth House Recovery Centre for injured servicemen and women at Tidworth and their Fishing For Forces initiative, have been strengthened even further after a group of the club's carp anglers held a 36-hour carp match at the Steeple Langford lakes.

The match raised £150 and club vice chairman, Roger Hunt, presented the cheque to the founder of the charity, Bill Howell. The club and the charity have organised a number of fishing days for injured soldiers over the last three years and they are proving to be very successful with more and more service personnel taking up the chance to enjoy a day's fishing on the club's waters.
