ALTRUISTIC sporting heroes will be recognised for their dedication and success at the fifth Wiltshire Sports Awards.

Some of the county’s finest athletes, coaches and teams will be unveiled as prizewinners at the annual event in County Hall, Trowbridge.

More than 100 nominations were received and the shortlisted nominees, see below, will meet England rugby star Phil de Glanville, right, who is the host.

He will be joined by guest speaker and gold medal winning heptathlete Kelly Sotherton, far right, on Wednesday, October 22.

She won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and was a bronze medallist at the 2004 Olympics and 2007 World Championships.

Among the 12 categories, City of Salisbury’s young Lizzie Clifford is up for sports personality of the year and Salisbury Tri Club is bidding to take over from last year’s winners Sarum Orienteering.

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for leisure Jonathon Seed said: “I am constantly amazed by the hard work and dedication of those involved in sport in Wiltshire.

“These awards go some way to recognising the exceptional talent of athletes, sports clubs, volunteers and coaches across the county.

“I congratulate all of those who have been shor t l i s t e d and look forward to seeing them on October 22 and hearing about their achievements.”
