BAGS of quality dace and roach, a big bream and double-figure carp have all been caught during the last week as they continue to enjoy good autumn fishing.

The one downside of the week was the loss of some fish following a diesel spillage in Harnham on Thursday, but that could have been a lot worse.

Salisbury Angling Club held a club match on the Nadder on Sunday and weights were good with lovely bags of dace and roach.

John Nuttall was pegged on the field side of Queen Elizabeth Gardens in the city and won the match with nine chub and plenty of quality dace for a total weight of 37lb. Shaun Gumbleton, for GT Tackle, was runner-up with more than 20lb and Marcus Crook was third with 18lb 12oz, which included a 1lb 12oz roach.

The London AA stretch of the Avon at Britford was affected by the spillage of diesel following an accident in Newbridge Road last Thursday. Fortunately, fish losses were kept to a minimum following prompt action by the emergency services and river officials.

Anglers fishing the club's stretch over the weekend enjoyed good sport with no obvious after-effects. The old river section produced grayling and dace and some roach while around the island bags of roach from a few ounces to 1lb 14oz were caught.

Downstream, between Fordingbridge and Ringwood, the Avon continues to fish well for barbel, chub and dace.

Highlights include a bream of 10lb and a chub up to 7lb.

Lakes also fished well as the mild weather continued with Barnmoor Lake, at Witherington Farm Fishery, provided two more big carp. Nigel Tapper landed a mirror weighing 24lb 4oz and Shane Willett banked one of 20lb 1oz.

Weights were very good for the third round of the Teams of Four, hosted by Witherington, on Saturday.

Individual winner was John Dewbury, for the second time in a row, this time with a bag of 109lb 7oz from the Inner Snake. Mark Blake was second with 94lb 4oz from Sellwood Lake and Paul Barnard was third with 80lb 10oz from the Inner Snake. Winning team on the day was Reid's Tackle with 30 points and their victory creates an interesting battle at the top of the table as they are four points behind rivals Reid's Tackle B.

Nightingale Lake at Wellow is fishing well for tench and carp and reports from Waldens Farm Fishery and lakes in the Ringwood area show anglers are catching plenty fish.
