NOBLE golf pros have spent some valuable time with wounded servicemen through the PGA Golf Buddy Programme.

About 50 pros across the country are involved in the nationwide initiative which gives injured soldiers the opportunity to play golf and have free coaching in their community. This is aimed to help rebuild their lives following life-changing illnesses or injuries sustained in the Armed Forces.

Surrey’s Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court initiated this scheme with the support of the PGA, aiding Wiltshire’s personnel recovery centre, Tedworth House in Tidworth.

Long-serving PGA professional from Tidworth Garrison, Terry Gosden, is among the pros who plays a part in the personnel recovery process.

He said: “Many of the soldiers have suffered terrible injuries but perhaps even more profound is the psychological damage.

“This was brought home to me this year with one soldier who had some serious leg injuries from a roadside explosion and he explained that golf was the one thing that stopped him thinking about what happened to him in Afghanistan.”
