BRANSGORE thrower Scott Mitchell has booked his place in the BDO World Darts Championship final after an efficient performance against qualifier Jeff Smith.

‘Scotty Dog’ didn’t have to be at his best to beat the Canadian who never found his feet on the prestigious Lakeside Saturday missing numerous checkouts in a disappointing 6-0 loss.

Now Mitchell - who has already bagged a guaranteed £30,000 - will take on Glen Durrant or three times former champion Martin Adams in the final with £100,000 at stake for the winner.

Smith had lived up to his nickname - the Silencer - all week, upsetting a number of seeded players on route to the semi-final, but Mitchell was in control from opening with a 180 maximum right through to a devastating 105 checkout to book his place in tomorrow’s final.

In between the fourth seed was rarely troubled and from the moment Smith missed a double to take the first set the Canadian struggled to threaten the scorers.

Mitchell will now play in his first BDO World Darts Championship final tomorrow having never before made it past the second round and after the match he told the BBC that it was a “real dream”.

He said: “I just look at what I am throwing at and I throw at what I am looking at.

“I am just a county player from Dorset, I have played a couple of times for England, I have been at Lakeside a few times but this is what the BDO can do to you, you can come straight off the street to being here.

“I am heading off to enjoy today but my preparation for tomorrow starts right now.”
