AN active tennis club in Salisbury has received a cash boost.

Victoria Park Community Tennis Centre on Stratford Road, which has six courts, is one of five sports clubs to receive a grant as part of Wiltshire Council’s Return to Sport funding programme.

More than £2,000 will be shared between Chippenham Golf Club, Peterborough Arms Cricket Club in Dauntsey, Victoria Park Tennis Club, Mid and West Wilts Community Badminton Association and Calne Netball Club.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for leisure, said: “The grants awarded through the Return to Sport and Sports Stars programmes will enable clubs to offer a high quality coaching scheme.

At the end of the projects, clubs will provide opportunities for participants to continue to be involved in the sport on a more regular basis.”

The scheme is part of a legacy for the county, which was developed to encourage adults to keep fit and healthy.

The next deadline for sport clubs to apply for either Return to Sport Funding or Sports Stars is Sunday, May 31.
