WITHERINGTON Farm Fishery has a new carp record after Simon Gillingham tempted one of Barnmoor Lake's big common to take his bait.

The fish pulled the scales down to 33lb 12oz, setting a new record for the lake and for the fishery. It was one of several doubles to come out of Barnmoor Lake over the last week, a couple of the others nudging 20lb apiece.

Elsewhere on the fishery, pleasure anglers have been catching skimmers and smaller carp from the other four lakes with bags around 20lb to 30lb a sitting. Some days when the wind was gusty and cold, conditions were difficult but the warmer weather is steadily improving sport.

Barnmoor Lake also fished well for an open mid-week match, with Johnny Gray taking the honours with 46lb 2oz, mainly skimmers and small carp. Dave George was runner-up with 33lb 3oz and Martin Rogers was third with 22lb 11oz.

Plenty of double-figure carp from Hucklesbrook Lake, near Ringwood, too, with a handful touching 25lb. Anglers have also been catching tench to 6lb or so.

Tench and some big bream are starting to appear from lakes at Waldens Farm Fishery as temperatures rise. The bigger bream are being caught out of Bishops Lake, along with carp into double figures. Newly-stocked tench are also beginning to be caught from Monks Lake and the Match Lake while the odd colder night is helping to keep perch on the feed with decent-sized ones from Monks Lake. Carp and skimmers from Abbots Lake with the chance of a larger carp as both Abbots and Bishops lakes have a good stock of heavyweight ghost carp.
