SARUM ORIENTEERS travelled to the Forest of Dean to take part in the British Orienteering Championships Long Distance Individual and Relay events.

The outstanding result from the 15 members who travelled was Lucy Butt, who in her first year as a senior, achieved third place in the W21Elite class.

Lucy’s brother Tom also had a great result coming 2nd in the M21S class with mum Jackie (W50L) and Charlotte Thornton W70L placed ninth in their respective classes.

In the Mixed ad hoc Relay class the team of Jeff Butt, Ian Peirce and Tom Butt achieved 3rd place.

The final event in the South West Orienteering Association Galoppen organised by North Wilts Orienteers was held at Rodborough and Minchinhampton Commons near Stroud.

This race series involves all of the nine SWOA clubs and Sarum came home with two class winners. Ben Chesters scored 4952 out of a maximum 5000 points to win the highly competitive Brown course with Peter Hambleton scoring 4918 points to head up the Short Green course list.

This crowns a successful season for Ben Chesters who also won the Sarum Club Galoppen, which is based on results from over 50 events in which Sarum runners competed in the 2014/15 season.
