STONEHENGE CrossFit officially opened its doors on Saturday, welcoming more than 200 people to its new facility in Harnham.

An action-packed day saw about 70 people take part in workouts and proceedings, which were initiated by former IBF world middleweight boxing champion Darren Barker.

The guest talked about his career in an interview with Stonehenge CrossFit co-owner Tris Dixon and then cut the ribbon to declare the popular open.

“What a fantastic set-up,” said Barker. “I’m glad I got to see some of the action. The guys have done a brilliant job setting the place up. It’s absolutely buzzing, the vibe is great and it was nice to meet so many members who are so positive about where they train.”

“It’s been an amazing day,” said co-owner Scott Healey, “We couldn’t have asked for any more. We are so proud of what has happened with the gym and the community that has built here. Our members did us proud, as they always do, and the day passed in the blink of an eye.”

There were visitors from several other CrossFit facilities in the south, including CrossFit Taunton, CrossFit Solent in Southampton, Sarum CrossFit in Salisbury, Reebok CrossFit Reading, CrossFit Blockhouse in Andover and CrossFit Chichester.

Stallholders came from as far afield as Plymouth and Manchester and Among the workouts was the unveiling of CrossFit Striking, a new class Stonehenge CrossFit is one of the first facilities in Europe to offer.

Dixon said: “We are hugely indebted to our members. Tom Bartlett DJ’d for us through the workouts, some top athletes came to work out and everyone seemed to have a fantastic day. The energy was incredible.”
