SOME huge tench have been caught from fisheries in the region as spawning nears its end and the days get warmer.

Topping the list of big tench venues is Hucklesbrook Lake, between Ringwood and Fordingbridge, where several specimens have been caught with the best at 9lb 4oz. Ringwood's Spinaker Lake is also fishing well for tench and here fish to 8lb 15oz have been landed.

In the Salisbury area, Watergate Farm Fishery at Bulford is among the best tench venues with plenty around the 5lb mark with Sunday providing one angler with several tench to just over 6lb each.

Watergate Farm and Hucklesbrook are also fishing well for carp with mirrors and commons into the mid-20's from Watergate's specimen lake and a common of 29lb from Hucklesbrook. Watergate's main lake is fishing well for smaller carp up to double figures with anglers landing bags of carp and tench well over 100lb a sitting.

All the lakes at Waldens Farm Fishery are fishing well with bream to 3lb or 4lb, carp into double figures and roach to 1lb or so. Some of the lakes are still being affected by late spawning with carp and tench among the species still breeding.

Witherington Farm Fishery hosted a club match for Salisbury Angling Club at the weekend heralding the start of the club's new match season. It was fished on the Inner Snake Lake and was won by Paul Barnard with 58lb 12oz. Shaun Gumbleton was second with 43lb 5oz and Malc Pepperill was third with 42lb 5oz.

Good all-round sport is being enjoyed by anglers visiting Dandy's Ford Lane Fishery with some fish spawning but most of them have now finished and the fishery's lakes are starting to fish well again.
