SUMMER fishing is getting into gear now as fish have finished spawning in the majority of lakes with the result that there have been some good catches and superb individual specimens.

Spinaker Lake near Ringwood is producing some notable tench with one of 9lb 12oz topping the list followed by a lovely 2lb 5oz roach. The lake is fishing well for tench with many between 5lb and 8lb.

Nearby Hucklesbrook Lake is also fishing well for tench with specimens around 8lb and the occasional one topping 9lb.

The final round of the Toyota Super League was held at Witherington Farm Fishery over the weekend using three of the lakes. By the end of the competition, Pete Newman was crowned division one winner with Mark Cannings the winner of division two. Individual winner on the day was Mick Hawkins, who netted 95lb 2oz from Sellwood Lake. Mark Illingworth was runner-up with 83lb 4oz.

Pleasure anglers at Witherington Farm are enjoying good sport with carp, bream and silver fish and on Monday morning, a 19lb 1oz carp was caught fom Barnmoor Lake.

Plenty of bream and silver fish from Waldens Farm Fishery too, although here the big carp are remaining elusive. All lakes are fishing well for bream and tench plus roach and smaller carp.

Plenty of carp and big tench from Watergate Farm Fishery at Bulford and Dandy's Ford Lane fishery at Wellow is also providing anglers with good bags of mixed fish.

Salisbury Angling Club members enjoyed a match at their picturesque Nightingale Lake at Wellow on Sunday but although the weather was good, sport was patchy. Ian Heydon won the match with just 19lb 6oz and Bill Davis was second with 18lb 8oz. Paul Barnard took third place with 17lb 12oz.

The 2015-16 river season opened last Tuesday with the main Avon running fairly low and clear giving anglers a difficult start to the new season.
