CITY of Salisbury running club’s new signing Jo-Anne Gready earned herself a much sought-after place in next year’s London marathon when she took an excellent third place in the women’s race at the Yeovil 26 miler.

Crossing the finishing line on the two lap course in 3hours 33mins she knocked nearly 20minutes off her previous best at the distance — set in New York.

The indefatigable Liz Roberts ticked another event off her marathon wishlist, clocking 4.23, while among the men Rithy Hy went very close his best with a good 3.15 and Steve Aotun also did well with 3.32.

A few days before, Jo-Anne took first place in the Crewkerne 10k women’s race with 43min 46sec, ahead of Steve Lomas with 54.29.

Adam Bradburn continued his set of good road results with a run of 18min 55sec in the Yeovil summer series 5k.

In the tough Needles half marathon multi terrain on the Isle of Wight, Jane Whiteley completed the distance in 2.10 and Colin Martin recorded 3.03.

n The Ness family in Salisbury had double cause for celebration at the Wiltshire athletics awards ceremony in Devizes.

Outstanding 400m junior international prospect Jake Ness won Athlete of the Year title, and his father Lee was dubbed Coach of the Year for his continuous improvements to the club’s track and field performance.
