ANGLERS, fishing the annual Chris Sellwood memorial match at Witherington Farm Fishery at the weekend, raised £900 for Leukaemia Research at the specialist Pembroke Suite at Salisbury District Hospital.

The competition was held over two lakes at the fishery and was well supported, both in numbers and financially. Winner on Cottage Lake was Malc Pepperill with 62lb 10oz, Martin Rogers was second with 52lb 4oz and Colin Sellwood was third with 46lb 12oz.

Weights on Sellwood Lake were lower, with Brian Shutler taking top spot with 37lb 10oz, Paul Barnard was runner-up with 37lb 8oz and Geoff Andrews was third with 25lb 8oz.

Salisbury Angling Club’s match on the larger lake at Steeple Langford on Sunday, was almost a re-run of the club match on the lake in June as first place again went to Steve Brown, who caught four quality bream for a total weight of 12lb 7oz, and Paul Barnard occupied second spot with 11lb 12oz, comprising rudd and roach. The ony change from June was third spot which this time went to Malc Pepperill with 8lb 12oz.

Lakes in the Ringwood area continue to provide anglers with good sport for tench and carp, particularly Hucklesbrook Lake, which has seen carp to the upper twenties and tench up to 8lb banked regularly.

River anglers are still finding sport difficult with the Avon remaining low and still very clear. Around Ringwood, some stretches are producing barbel up to 12lb or so and quite a few stretches are giving anglers good bags of dace and the odd larger chub.

The lower reaches of the London AA’s fishery at Britford is the best bet says bailiff and waterkeeper, Stuart Wilson. Kits Island at the bottom of the fishery was the spot chosen by Steve Jones and he landed nine chub using a feeder as well as a few grayling and perch. Some dace are being caught from other stretches on the lower parts of the fishery and the odd small roach but on the whole, sport is hard.
