SALISBURY Splendour's second day sees the £75,000 Group 3 Totepool Sovereign Stakes take centre stage as the course's feature race of the year.

Today, a field of 11 are currently engaged and the entries are headed by last year’s impressive winner, Captain Cat, who represents Roger Charlton and Season’s Holidays, respectively.

Richard Hannon saddles 2014 Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up, Shifting Power, who is on a recovery mission following his latest effort where he was pulled up lame at Epsom, connections will be hoping their horse is back to his best and is fully recovered from his early season exertions.

The Group 2 winning duo of Custom Cut, for David O’Meara, and Tullius, for Andrew Balding will both saddle five pound penalties for their successes at the higher level this term, but both have the class to pose more than a creditable threat to the Totepool Sovereign Stakes.

Marco Botti is dual handed, saddling both Moohaarib and Fanciful Angel while fellow Newmarket trainer, John Gosden, saddles Wannabe Yours, stepping down from Group 2 Company. Dark Emerald (Brendan Powell), Mustadeem (Brian Meehan) and Kodi Bear (Clive Cox) complete the line-up with the latter looking to build on a promising run last time out in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat.

Elsewhere on the card, Salisbury welcome Arc De Triomphe and Melbourne Cup winning jockey, Gerald Mosse, to Netherhampton for the first time. The worldly jockey has three rides for Clive Cox on the card: Bobby Wheeler, in the opening Racing’s Biggest Supporter Maiden Auction; Mikandy, in the Win A Football Fortune With Scoop6soccer EBF Stallions Fillies’ Handicap and Kodi Bear in the Totepool Sovereign Stakes.

The seven-race card gets under way at 2.30pm.
