CHAMPION Jockey elect, Silvestre De Sousa, was at his best on Friday at Salisbury where he rode a double on the seven race card.

De Sousa’s first came in the Bathwick Car & Van Hire Nursery Handicap aboard race favourite, Justice Angel. Trained by Juddmonte International winning trainer, David Elsworth, Justice Angel travelled powerfully under De Sousa before taking the gap presented to her just over a furlong out and forging clear for a comfortable win.

Justice Angel holds some fancy entries, including the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and certainly looks open to further progression.

De Sousa was then back in the winners enclosure following the very next race, the feature EBF Stallions Fillies’ Conditions Stakes, as Ralph Beckett’s Flying Empress discarded the well-fancied Shwaimsa under a canny all the way ride. The filly holds an entry in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket in just over a week.

Elsewhere on the card, there was an obligatory winner for Salisbury’s leading 2015 jockey and trainer, as Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs combined with In The Red to land division two of the Booker Wholesale Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Division one was won in the opening race of the night as Willy Twiston-Davies guided Alan King’s Jim Dandy to victory.

There were also victories for jockeys George Baker aboard Extrasolar (Amanda Perrett), Gary Mahon aboard Honcho (John Ryan) and Tom Queally aboard the well-bred Anzhelika in the closing Breeders Backing Racing EBF Maiden Stakes for David Lanigan.

Salisbury host two more meetings this season on September 30 and October 12, the latter is a reduced admission raceday.
