TEENAGER Jay Domoney posted an impressive third place finish among a field of 900 in the senior 5k race at Portsmouth.

The City of Salisbury runner, 16, who moved up to the senior category after good results in previous years' events, clocked a speedy time of 16min 10sec.

Over the same distance, Sarah Warren returned to action following injury and showed she has lost none of her pace either, with a fine 22.13 that gave her an excellent second place in the women’s rankings.

Sarah’s daughter Rose, aged 11, moved quickly into the lead group of the 2.5k, 9-11 years girls’ event and it was only in the finishing straight that she was edged into second place, stopping the clock at an impressive 9.13.

Younger sister Emily, aged nine and in her debut race, also did the Warren family proud, finishing 23rd in 11.07.

Among the massed ranks competing in the 10mile race, Steve Auton was little more than a minute outside his best as he ticked off the final mile, but he couldn’t find the extra speed he needed and finished with 66.15.

A far cry from the congested tarmac of Portsmouth and Southsea, the off road Stickler ten mile over the steep hills of Dorset provided a different sort of test for Rithy Hy, and he did well to clock 76.04 to finish well up the field.
