Ellingham and Ringwood made the short distance up the A338 to try and avenge the loss to local rivals Fordingbridge in the reverse fixture.

The game started well for the home side when Matthew Norton converted a long-range penalty for the first points of the match after ten minutes.

Norton narrowly missed the conversion but six minutes later added another penalty following a scrum offence from Es.

E’s caught ‘Bridge napping when they quickly took a penalty on the stroke of half time, which led to a fine individual run from Chris Frost who opened their account in the corner to end the half 11-5.

Five minutes into the second half saw Peter Scott break through to touch down and, with the extras added, the lead was back up to 13.

Following a scrum in Ellingham’s five metre area, the ensuing ruck that Ed Douglass’s quick thinking in touching the ball against the base of the posts resulted in the home side’s third try.

With the conversion made they drifted clear and Tom Sheppard supplied a fourth try for the bonus point near full time.

'Bridge captain Steve Brown said: “Our target for today was to tighten up our defence, an area that has caused some issues in recent games and I’m delighted that we only allowed and excellent attacking side like Ellingham to only cross our line once."

Fordingbridge take a break from league action on Saturday when they welcome Surrey’s Reeds Weybridge to the Rec in the next round of the cup.

Fordingbridge 2XV travelled to Bournemouth to face their 3XV and, in a tough encounter, went down 41-5.
