A SALISBURY squash champion has won a top accolade.

Jason Pike, 30, who grew up in Salisbury and spent his boyhood years at Moonrakers Squash Club (now Sports Direct Fitness), was crowned Club Coach of the Year.

Pike was handed the award at the 2016 Allam British Open Squash Championships in Hull last month.

He took up the role of head coach at Lemington Spa in 2011 after a successful career in Wiltshire, where he was Junior County Champion and Men's Wiltshire County Champion.

Squash chairman Ming Lee said: "I'm delighted that Jason has been recognised for the great work he's doing at our squash club. His passion for squash comes through everything he does and our members are responding - we have more members playing more squash than ever before."

"As head coach at our club, Jason has worked proactively running schools programmes, developing the club's junior programme, creating social squash activities and creating a vibe in the club which has helped membership grow from 360 to 460 members in two years."

Spanning seven categories from Young Coach of the Year to National Volunteer the Year, more than 300 nominations were received for the awards.

In addition, Pike also became Warwickshire County Champion this year.
