INTERNATIONAL athletics star Marilyn Okoro made a guest appearance at Salisbury’s Five Rivers track to give a motivational session to a group of City of Salisbury young prospects.

Okoro, a 400m and 800m specialist, ran for Team England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and for Great Britain in the World Championships in Osaka.

City of Salisbury then made a flying start to their division three campaign in the Southern Athletics League, beating off Newquay and Par to notch up a big win on their home track, helped by new names in the under-17s.

Morgan Ringwood won the pole vault on her first attempt, Ottilie Knight took the javelin and discus, Tasha Mundell won the 2,000m steeplechase, Zoe Ridley did well in both the sprints along with Sky Allen, who also played a part in winning the 100m and 400m relays. Becky Service and Lucy Smith made light work of the 800m.

Among the seniors, Bea Fordham won the 400m in 60sec, Kathy Dudman took the 3,000m in 11min 18.3sec and Ella-May Hards won the senior steeplechase.

Lee Syrett switched from parkruns to make a successful debut in both the 800m and 5k and Andy Holme showed great promise on the track and in the field events.

Callum MacTaggart clinched the 100m in 11.9sec and 200m in 24.2sec and was part of the winning Salisbury team in each of the relays. Jay Domoney looked sharp when winning the 800m; Aidan Homes easily won the javelin.

Jack Paget did well in the 100m, pole vault, discus and shot; Richard Holt won the long jump with 5.94m.

On the road, Clive Smith clocked 3hours 27min in the Brighton marathon, and in the muddy 11k Houghton trail race Sally Greenslade finished in 53min 44sec.
