SPORT is beginning to pick up at fisheries across the region and with warmer weather predicted, things can only get better.

Anglers visiting Waldens Farm Fishery at West Grimstead, have been been enjoying mixed bags of fish including roach, skimmers, and the appearance of tench, which were stocked last year. Carp are also beginning to take an interest in baits with decent-sized mirrors and commons from Abbots Lake, Monks and the Match Lake.

With the nights over the last week or so still cold, perch are continuing to feed well and some good specimens have been banked from Monks Lake with several individual fish weighing-in at 2lb 8oz.

Across at Witherington Farm Fishery, a two-day weekend match saw some of the best weights of the year so far, with just under 100lb from Cottage Lake and over 60lb from Sellwood Lake. Pleasure anglers have also been landing double-figure bags of silver fish, carp and skimmers from all five lakes.

Wedgehill Lake, near Verwood, particularly the bottom lake, continues to fish well with roach up to 1lb 8oz and bags of roach between 12lb and 15lb a sitting not unusual. Perch and skimmers plus the odd tench can also be expected.

Hucklesbrook Lake, between Fordingbridge and Ringwood, is providing carp anglers with commons and mirrors well into double figures with the best of the week at 29lb. Tench are also feeding well with individual fish up to 7lb 10oz.
