RUNNING star Jay Domoney is a step closer to qualifying for the English Schools' Athletics Association (ESAA) Championships.

The 17-year-old sped round the 1500m Watford track in in three minutes and 58 seconds for a silver medal.

That finish should seal his place in the ESAA games next month, which are held in Gateshead.

Salisbury was the venue for a Young Athletes’ League fixture where Beatrice Wood was the star, continuing her amazing season by winning the under-13s 1200m in a new club record of 3min 50.7sec. That took seven seconds off the previous mark and moved her into the UK’s current top three in her age group.

Theo Cochrane too broke a club record when he cleared 1.47m in the under 13s' high jump, also doing well in the long jump.

On the road at Portsmouth in the warm conditions of the D Day 10k, the steadily improving Jon Kershaw crossed the line in a promising 45min 53sec. He was followed by Phil Perry with 46.31, the returning Matt Dyer 46.55 and Colin McGuinness 55.42.
