HUNDREDS of men braved the rain as they stood up to prostate cancer at Sunday’s Race for Men.

Some 306 runners descended on Hudson’s Field for two races - the 10k and the 3k - to support The Body Lounge Foundation event, now in its second year.

It was a family affair in the 10k race, with Lyons brothers Will and Hector taking gold and bronze.

Will sped round the challenging course in 39 minutes and five seconds, William Lane followed by second-placed Will Lane in 40.03 and Hector in 40.51.

Fourth was Joe Chick 41.28, fifth James Mills 41.33, Mark Adams back in sixth 41.41, Matt Bosworth seventh 41.50 and Felipe Carvajal 41.50 eighth.

Oliver Phillips clocked the best time in the 3k race, crossing the line in 10.33, ahead of Andrew Ingleton in 10.38 and Ross Wayne 10.43.

Organiser David Ferris said: “We feel very humbled by the amount of people who registered and turned up on the day with their supporters.

“There was over 1,200 people at the event supporting Race For Men.

“Once again, the volunteers who supported the Race For Men were exceptional, bringing, enthusiasm, energy and happiness to an event that can be physically and emotionally testing.”

People’s efforts last year raised £15,636 for Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal/Prostate Cancer, funding a top-of-the-range scanner which detects prostate cancer. Organisers say they hope to raise enough to fund a second.

The date has been booked for next year on Sunday, June 11.
