WILTSHIRE Council’s summer holiday programme of sports and activities is back.

The popular sports camps include athletics, basketball, cricket, tennis and football, and are run alongside partners including Wiltshire Cricket and Swindon Town Football in the Community.

Camps are open to all abilities, regardless of previous experience. They are intended to be fun, enjoyable and inclusive, and provide young people with challenges, games, coaching and competitions to take part in throughout the week.

In addition, the council’s leisure centre-based holiday activity programme, Camp Activate, provides hundreds of activities for young people aged five to 14 during the school holidays. Each programme is packed with art, sport and history activities at affordable prices.

The sessions are run by fully qualified staff in line with Ofsted guidelines, or trained professionals and have limited places to make sure they are run safely.

There is also the popular multi-sport, Fun in the Sun programme, which this summer will visit 27 places in the county for a weekly 90 minute session of outdoor games, activities and sports. This programme is aimed at five to 11 year olds and is free to attend.

Finally, free swimming for under 16s is available again during specific sessions at swimming pools across the county.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for leisure, said: “With the worldwide spotlight on the most talented athletes in the world, giving children and young people the chance to be inspired and the opportunity to take up a sport or physical activity, is critical to developing healthy habits and active lifestyles.

“We wish all our British sportsmen and women the very best in Rio, and look forward to possibly discovering some new talent in Wiltshire, or simply encouraging and developing an enjoyment of sport and physical activity.”
