MORGAN’S Vale star Emily Benham says it's an "incredible" feeling to be a double world champion.

The 27-year-old notched up two titles at the World Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) Championships in Aveiro-Coimbra, Portugal last week.

Gold arrived in the sprint race in a time of 17minutes and 17seconds, two seconds ahead of Finnish Marika Hara and 42 seconds quicker than her teammate Henna Saarinen in third place.

In the middle distance race Benham, formerly of Sarum Orienteers, missed out on the title being just three seconds behind Russian Olga Shipilova Vionogradova (44.02) to take silver. This narrow defeat spurred Emily on to storm home in the long distance race in a time of 1.29.10 to beat Gaelle Barlet of France by 38 seconds and seal her second world title and gold medal.

She said: “It’s just incredible, I’m really in the shape of my life at the moment." "I was so angry after Wednesday (middle distance), because I did so many things that I shouldn’t have done, and I just said to myself that I wouldn’t let that happen again, so the other athletes didn’t really have a chance."

Sweden-based Benham has become widely recognised in MBTO which she took up at the age of 11.

She has previously won three silver medals and two bronzes at MTBO World

Championships, was the World Cup winner in 2014 and 2015 and European

long distance champion in 2015.

Benham was also a winner of the Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Personality of the Year in 2010 and 2013.
