JOCKEYS Dane O'Neill and David Probert both rode doubles on Tuesday's card at Salisbury as the overcast conditions failed to dampen punters' spirits, despite 19mm of overnight rain turning the ground soft.

O'Neill opened the card with victory aboard the Sylvester Kirk trained Arborist who ran on to lead inside the final furlong, and held off the challenge of race favourite Dance Teacher gamely in the M J Church EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes (Division 1). O'Neill followed up his opening victory with a cosy success on Henry Candy's Poole Belle, who made a mockery of the Peter Symonds Catering Handicap and justified favouritism after travelling strongly throughout.

Not to be outdone by his weighing room companion, Salisbury's leading jockey for 2016, David Probert, hit back with a double of his own to extend his lead at the top of Salisbury's jockey standings. Probert opened his account on Tuesday with Galactic Prince who was a well-deserved winner of the second division of the M J Church EBF Stallions Maiden for trainer Andrew Balding. Touted as one of owner Jeff Smith's most promising juveniles, Galactic Prince could be set for a bright future following Tuesday's win. Probert was back in the winners enclosure after guiding Edge to victory in the Venture Security Handicap Stakes (Division 2) for Welsh based trainer, Bernard Llewellyn - this was Probert's 7th Salisbury winner of the season.

Racegoers were treated to a royal winner on the card as Sir Michael Stoute's Labyrinth coasted to an odds-on victory in the CPA Scaffolding Maiden Fillies' Stakes under Ted Durcan. Settled in behind the early leader, Organza, Labyrinth put the race to bed in a matter of strides entering the final furlong and favourite backers were never given a moments worry.

The feature Bathwick Tyres Fillies' Handicap saw an upset as the hot-favourite, Hereawi, never threatened under Pat Dobbs. Instead, victory went the way of Eager Beaver who was the recipient of a canny front running ride by Martin Dwyer, scoring by two lengths from Graceland.

Elsewhere on the card there was a maiden Salisbury winner for the Italian jockey Antonio Fresu who guided Ed Walker's Boychick to success in the first division of the Venture Security Handicap before the card was rounded off by Tim Vaughan's Master Dancer, a comfortable winner of the Bathwick Tyres Salisbury Handicap under apprentice Mitch Godwin.

Salisbury next race on August 10 (Wednesday) and 11 (Thursday) where the Salisbury Splendour meeting takes centre stage, featuring the Group 3 Totepool Sovereign Stakes.
