CITY of Salisbury club runners were prominent among the hundreds of athletes and walkers who braved the heat of the summer sun to take part in the traditional 5-4-3-2-1 around the trails and hill paths of south Wiltshire raising funds for the Fire Fighters’ charity.

Most popular of the several events starting from Ashley Green was the half marathon distance, won by Keith Russell of Reading AC in 1hour 30min 06sec. Reece Ingram put up a good performance to stop the clock at 1.38.26, just pipping clubmate Jon Kershaw’s rapid 1.38.27.

Then came Phil Perry with 1.52.02, Sally Greenslade with a game 1.53.07, Charlotte Ingram 1.58.09, Craig Murphy 1.58.49, Paul Woodhouse 2.05.21, Sue Howland 2.29.17 and Kathryn Dreyer 2.48.39.

In the 33k, Ben Carter clocked 2.38.13 and over the extra challenging 50k distance, endurance specialist Phil Smith clocked 4.28.28.
