A HARD-FOUGHT tussle in the Southern Athletics League’s final fixture of the season at Reading resulted in City of Salisbury being narrowly defeated.

Sam Stephenson was among the early winners when he took the 400m B event, as well as winning the high jump with 1.65m. His success was echoed by Rob Mann who won the 5000m in 15min 43.2sec and the 1500m B race as well.

Making a change from road running, Stuart Holloway won the 5000m B race in 16min 50.2sec and Andy Holme was first in the 2000m steeplechase, crossing the line in 7min 4.7sec.

Darren Clissold won the steeplechase B event, and also the hammer.

Richard Holt won the long jump with 6.43m and the triple jump with 13.01m. There was even more success in the field events, Jack Paget won the discus, shot put and the B string triple jump.

Alex Mundell won the women’s 400m in 64.4sec, the 800m in 2min 23.9sec and the B string 100m hurdles. Younger sister, Tasha Mundell, showed the way in the A string hurdles, winning in 26.9sec.

Jasmine Thayer won the 800m and 3000m B races, and Kate Robinson took the 1500m B race and the 3000m in 10min 32.5sec.

Rachel Noble was winner of the 400m hurdles B race and Ottilie Knight was first in the javelin with a throw of 32.98m.

The Salisbury club now awaits news of possible promotion out of league division 3.

In the Bad Cow half marathon near Poole, Mike White ran well for fifth spot in 95min 37sec, and in a hilly 32miler along the coast, the tireless Phil Smith clocked 5hours 58mins 40sec.
