ELLINGHAM & Ringwood’s women’s side kicked off their league campaign in National Challenge Division 2 South with an impressive 27-0 away win at Portsmouth.

Es' wing three-quarter Jasmine Clark and full back Chloe Barrett both scored in the corner to open up a 10-0 lead at the interval.

After the resumption, Pompey started strongly, but Ellingham defended well. Both Clark and Barrett added a further try each and fly half Charlotte Benson also scored in the corner. Barrett added a conversion to complete a 27-0 victory.

Elsewhere, with no first fixture on the cards, a strong seconds travelled to Dorchester where they won 30-8 in Dorset Division 2.

Their fly half, Archie Cockayne, kicked a penalty following some sustained pressure to take a three-point lead, but this motivated Dorchester and they scored a well worked try to make it 5-3. Ellingham then applied further pressure and lock forward Tim Linford crashed over to give the visitors an 8-5 advantage at the break.

After a stern talking to from coach Alan Steel, Ellingham came out strongly in the second half and Tim Linford soon went over for a second try that was converted by scrum half Aaron Barker. Barker kicked a second penalty to extend the lead, but Dorchester came back with a penalty of their own Towards the end of the game the Ellingham forwards started to dominate the game and their number eight Stuart Pearce went over in the corner for a well worked try, which Barker converted.

Wing three quarter Jonny Joiner went over in the corner for the last score of the game.

Meanwhile, the thirds romped to a 45-0 win over Bournemouth.

Fly half Ben Carey scored a hat trick of tries and full back Jonny Owen (pictured) added another two. The other tries were scored by wing three quarter Nick Doulton and prop forward Rob Ford. Jonny Owen added five conversions.
