FOUR Olympic gold medallists shared their hockey skills with children at Forres Sandle Manor School (FSM).

Alex Danson, Shona McCallin, Hollie Webb and Ellie Watton, who won gold with the women’s hockey Team GB at Rio 2016, were on hand at the Fordingbridge school’s MT13 hockey coaching session last week.

The hockey team had a stunning Olympics, winning gold following a dramatic penalty shootout win in the final over a robust Holland.

Jody Wells, deputy head and hockey coach at FSM, said: “The opportunity to work with and learn from players who can genuinely claim to be part of the best team in the world is an inspiration that could well set some of the boys and girls on their own path to success.

“The Olympians were fantastic with our youngsters, who all pushed their game to a higher level.”

Head teacher Mark Hartley says it was an experience that will stay with the pupils for a lifetime: “What an amazing experience for our children to have had today.

“I was one of the many who stayed up to see our women’s hockey team triumph in Rio. That victory was inspirational in itself but to see the players come back to the UK and give back to the national players of the future by means of their time and knowledge really is something.

“I know our FSM hockey teams will be really fired up after this experience.”

FSM’s open morning is this Saturday, from 10am.
