MORE than 1,000 runners took part in the Clarendon Marathon between cathedral cities Salisbury and Winchester on Sunday.
Twenty-year-old Thomas Dell was was the first competitor to cross the line at Kings’ School in Winchester, completing the taxing 26.2-mile route in three hours, five minutes and 15 seconds.
The first woman to finish was Asia Zmyslona in 3:22:17.
The first relay team to finish the full marathon was “Costleys plus mum” from West End in Southampton.
The overall winner of the half-marathon, which started in Broughton, was Paul Pallister in a time of 1:22:19.
One man and his dog ran together. Howard Clark ran the 13-mile race with Skye, a German Shorthaired Pointer, who enjoyed a victory roll in the grass after crossing the finishing line.
The annual event is organised by Winchester and Salisbury Rotary Clubs.
As well as the half-marathon and full marathon races, there was, for the first time, a five-mile fun run.
