ELLINGHAM and Ringwood put in a good performance on Saturday to earn another away bonus point 37-19 victory at newly-promoted Romsey in Snows Hampshire One.

In an evenly-contested first period, Ellingham fullback Josh Butcher kicked four penalties to make it 12-12 at the break.

The Es came back and were rewarded with tries from captain Garrett Avis, wing Chris Frost and scrum-half Dave Jones.

Butcher added two penalties and two conversions before Romsey replied with a converted try.

The seconds took on Dorset Dockers but suffered a miserable first half as three converted tries meant the home side led 21-0 at the break.

Ellingham and Ringwood fought back in a strong second-half performance, and were unlucky not to salvage the match.

They scored four tries through flanker Adam Castle, centre Brandon Clarke, fly-half Ollie Harvey and scrum-half Aaron Barker to close the gap to 28-31.

But while pushing for a winner in the dying moments, the dockers attacked and scored another converted try to win 38-28.

Ellingham and Ringwood’s thirds put in a determined performance against a strong Weymouth side in Dorset Division Three on Saturday.

They took an early lead when lock Ian McCue crashed over after a line out, but Weymouth came back strongly with three tries and a conversion to open up a 17-5 lead.

The home side dominated possession, with tries from Mark Burrett and Brad Evans reducing the deficit to 17-15 at the break.

The second half was hard fought, until a period of sustained pressure led to Mark Burrett crossing for his second try. Fullback Nick Doulton added the conversion to give Ellingham a deserved 22-17 lead.

But with the clock almost up, Weymouth were awarded a penalty and after a quick tap and go scored under the posts leaving a simple conversion to win the match 24-22.
