FORDINGBRIDGE racked up a 57-31 victory over Isle of Wight in Snows Hampshire One.

Another strong start by ’Bridge saw open side flanker, Ryan Burrell, make a fine break and score close to the posts with centre Mat Norton converting after five minutes.

The Isle of Wight struck back quickly with a converted try.

The game then ebbed and flowed before Fordingbridge centre Dee Stone went on a mazy run from his own half eventually going over in the corner for an unconverted try.

This was the spark that saw Fordingbridge score four tries, two converted by Norton, in a 13-minute period before half time.

They came from full back Peter Scott, two from rampaging lock Alex Tattersall and Norton.

The visitors started the second half 7-36 ahead and for the next 20 minutes dominated the match with two more tries from fly half Steve Brown and a second from Stone. So with 61 minutes gone Fordingbridge were 7-50 ahead.

The Isle of Wight spotted an opportunity and they scored three tries, two converted, in a six-minute spell before Fordingbridge responded with man of the match Scott touching down under the posts converted by Norton. The hosts had the last word when they scored an unconverted try wide out.

Coach James Greenwood said: “This was a disciplined and pleasing performance from us and we were clinical in converting the opportunities we created.”

Fordingbridge welcome another Island side in Sandown & Shanklin to The Recreation Ground.

Elsewhere, the seconds went down 14-8 in Dorset and Wilts 3 South.

For the visitors, Josh Goodchild converted a penalty and Jake Kostelyk scored a try despite the close attention of five Bournemouth players.

If it were not for injuries in the last 15 minutes reducing Fordingbridge to 14 men, then the result might have been different.
