THE SALISBURY Journal Sports Awards returned to the city in style at the weekend with a host of talent picking up the prizes.
Nearly 300 people slipped on their glad-rags at the Ray Mac for the event which took to the stage for the first time in 10 years.
Champion 400m sprinter Iwan Thomas hosted the evening where he delivered an engaging speech on his career, including how his ambition and hard-work resulted in gold at the European Championships in Budapest 1998.
A star-studded guest list was on show, with FA Cup winner Nick Holmes, England netball player Mia Ritchie and England lacrosse international Ruby Smith handing out awards in the luxury marquee.
It was a magnificent night for City of Salisbury Running Club, whose members scooped four awards, Salisbury RFC claimed three awards and there were two accolades for South Wilts' cricketers Will Wade and James Hayward.
Also on the winners' list was Roger Hunt, Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Karen Musselwhite, Alana Mercer, Shaun Prentice and Warren Clark.
Speaking on the night, editor and publisher Bill Browne said: "You heard earlier that we haven't had these awards for some time and it really is heartening to hold them once again and see so many people that I see in the pages of the Journal, and online, week-after-week.
