A SOMBRE day at Bournemouth saw City of Salisbury’s cross country squad don black armbands in memory of the two young club athletes who died in a road accident while training in Hampshire a few days earlier.

Their club, Aldershot and Farnham, turned out in force at the league fixture and were sympathetically applauded all round the course.

Jaymee Domoney led the way in the men’s race, taking an excellent third spot as an under-20, and 21st overall.

In a big field and against many cross country specialists, Ed O'Gorman was 72nd, Reece Ingram 107th, Andy Holme 120th, Kevin Tilley 137th, Rithy Hy 173rd, Mark Cole 174th, Darren Clissold 202nd, Richard Larcombe 216th, Andy Budgell 223rd, Tim Phillips 227th and 235 Gary Domoney 235th.

The senior ladies were led out by Charlotte Ingram on her debut over the country in 72nd, Ella May Hards 95th, Ali Sloane 103rd, Tasha Mundell 115, Lucy Smith 126th.

Among the under-11s, Adam Kirkham was 36th and George Budgell 54th.

The diminutive Alice Olliff- Lee led the under-13 girls home with a fine run for 30th, followed by Emily Phillips 46th and Ellena Bessey 47th. In the boys race, Jago Saunby was 61st and Kim Hards 64th.

Nile Battey ran well for 20th in the under-15s and in the girls’ race Louise Webb was 29th and Ellen Tilley 54th.

Alex D’Arbost was a good 13th in the under-17s with Fabrice Webb 25th.

This weekend the spotlight returns to road race league action at the Gosport half marathon, where a strong Salisbury men’s team is looking to tighten its grip on second place in division two behind Hedge End, led by Stuart Holloway in 10th place overall. The ladies team are in fourth, also within reach of promotion to the first division.
