CITY of Salisbury’s Stuart Holloway returned from a hamstring injury to make his mark in the Hampshire league’s Hayling 10mile on the south coast.

On a flat course not often used for league competition, he clocked a good 56min 44sec for seventh place behind James Head of Bedford AC who completed the distance exactly five minutes quicker – but doesn’t qualify for the league tables.

Holloway was lead man for the Salisbury team’s point scorers, with Reece Ingram setting a personal best 64.08, Clive Smith a well-earned 65.32 and Angus Paton 67.00 for an encouraging A team performance.

The B team had Craig Murphy in pole position with 71.51 and he was supported by Richard Larcombe 72.56 that just pipped Phil Perry’s 72.58 and Nick Willets with 74.28.

For the Salisbury ladies’ team of three, Charlotte Ingram again provided the lead performance with 72.04 and in her wake were Kate Mansfield in 76.58 and Jane Whiteley with 82.24.

Other finishers were Colin McGuinness in 75.22, Liz Roberts 84.10 and Colin Martin 98.52.

At the Downton half marathon, Ben Carter produced an excellent run to win his under-23 age category and take eighth place overall with a time of 84min 6sec.

Lee Syrett was not far behind in 12th spot with 88.09 and Chrissy Gorham clocked 111.51.

Jonathan Croom as the club’s only representative at the Boscombe 10k where he recorded a steady 40min 4sec.

This Sunday sees the third consecutive weekend of Hampshire League competition with the Victory 5mile at Portsmouth, the Salisbury club again fielding a big team to contest the points.
