TWO winners and a near miss inside 48 hours showed how well Paul Henderson's horses are running this month.

The Whitsbury trainer landed his fifth victory of the National Hunt season when Doitforthevillage made amends for unseating his rider at Uttoxeter a month earlier by taking a 2m novices' handicap chase at Lingfield Park on Saturday.

James Best was patience personified in the saddle not producing the seven-year-old until the run-in to triumph by four lengths with Henderson saying: “We thought Doitforthevillage would run well as he was travelling particularly well before unseating last time in his first race for six months.”

It was a case of lucky 13 on Monday when Miss Oscarose romped home by eight lengths in the 2m4f handicap chase at Plumpton with Paddy Brennan in the saddle. Henderson's mare had won three Irish point-to-points but had not scored on these shores in 12 outings before taking full advantage after leader Tikkapick fell two fences out.

The stable's close call was, however, Henderson's highlight with Un Beau Roman failing narrowly to follow up his course and distance success of last month when pipped by under two lengths into second spot in a valuable 2m handicap chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.
