A NATIONWIDE scheme encouraging women to start cycling is growing rapidly in the city.

British Cycling’s Breeze is the biggest programme yet to get more women riding bikes for fun and fitness.

Ten cyclists are at the forefront of the Salisbury group and are urging more women to register.

Volunteer Stephanie Leung, who rides with Salisbury Road and Mountain Club (SRAMcc), said: "I've only been riding a year but have completely caught the cycling bug!

"I usually head out on the various rides that SRAMcc has to offer but I appreciate that clubs can seem intimidating for new riders.

"Our aim is to help women feel more confident and comfortable about cycling, whether they want to ride for fitness, transport or a challenge."

Breeze rides are free, led on local routes, in small and friendly groups.

They are meeting on Saturday at Five Rivers Leisure Centre (10.30am) for a gentle ride across the Woodford Valley.

All ages and abilities are welcome.
