A NEW record has been set at Salisbury parkrun.

A whopping 541 runners flocked to the 5k event round Churchill Gardens on Saturday morning, surpassing the 475 on Christmas Eve.

Event director Liz Roberts ascribed the event’s dramatic growth to the way it appeals to such a wide range of people, from club runners to leisure walkers and not least through the ‘walk2run’ and ‘walk yourself fit’ initiatives that can help build fitness from a modest start.

First to finish was Ben Carter in the 20-24 age group, unattached, with a time of 17min 59sec and first woman was City of Salisbury’s Katherine Bleakley, 25-29, in 22.06.

Salisbury parkrun was launched in June 2015 and has been staged every Saturday since.
